Hi Jo, To answer your question across the globe MPA's preserves have been established to safeguard the area's wildlife and habitats however, not all of them are closed to all activites. Currently less than 1% of the oceans are closed to fishing. If you would like to see their locations go to: http://ocean.nationalgeographic.com/ocean/take-action/marine-protected-areas/ Just click on the plus sign next to each mark and it will show what is in each area
Interesting. I am wondering what is being done to protect the 4,000 places she mentions?

At least, they have done something. What I wish is that more states cared and especially the government.
